Place reservation for Safely wounded : Shetland letters from the First World WarWhen the Shetland poet Jack Peterson was recovering from a wound in hospital, one of his correspondents said to him in a letter "How glad I am to know you are safely wounded" This book of correspondence by Shetland men and women from World War One represents a tiny fraction of those sent. Shetland had two newspapers in those days, the Shetland Times and the Shetland News. Both published letters from men and women involved in the war, and letters they printed form the bulk of this publication. Others come from the Shetland Archive's holdings, or from private hands.Edited by staff and volunteers from the Shetland Archives, this collection of letters gives insight into life in the forces, the Merchant Navy and even front line nurses. Annotations tell the story of the writers, the importance of the action concerned and their fate. Many letters come from newspapers, others from the Shetland Archives collections. Created by the Shetland Museum and Archives and funded by the Scottish Library and Information Council
