Whilst Louise Milbourn's father's relatives were being invaded on Guernsey the impression of an imminent mainland invasion was so acute that she was sent to New Jersey with a group of other Quakers. Her wartime experiences as a 'vacee' were much more positive than what most English children suffered at the time.
