Victorian and Edwardian Fife from old photographs

Lamont-Brown, Raymond, 1939-1980
Books, Manuscripts
In the seventy-odd years covered by this book, Fife was a county where horse teams, women labourers and hand ploughs were to be seen in the fields; where golf was played in crinolines and fisher-girls thronged the piers; where railways were a novelty and the combustion engine turned life upside-down; where shoes were for weekends only and a labourer earned 30 pence a week. It records the early days of photography and how that art developed in Fife. Here it can be seen how changed and unchanged Fife appears. It chronicles lost trades and exhibits important aspects of Fife life industrial and rural.
