This publication is the culmination of a project involving all S1 pupils at Kirkwall Grammar School. 174 pupils worked over several months exploring the townscape of Kirkwall. The aim of the project was to create a greater awareness about the history and heritage of Kirkwall, encouraging pupils to 'look up' and explore architectural features above eye level. Pupils used different processes to respond to the town and to draw attention to features and shapes in their built environment. Over 600 artworks have been created including photography, chemigrams, photo montage, relief clay work, soapstone carvings, printmaking and drawing.
