Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall star in this classic film noir directed by Howard Hawks. Los Angeles-based private detective Philip Marlowe (Bogart) is hired by General Sternwood (Charles Waldron) to help his daughter Carmen (Martha Vickers) with a gambling issue, but Carmen's sister Vivian (Bacall) believes that the situation is more complex than it appears. As his investigation progresses, Marlowe uncovers much darker secrets involving the Sternwood family and their associates. The cast also includes John Ridgely, Peggy Knudsen and Regis Toomey.
