Paul Newman stars in this classic US drama directed by Stuart Rosenberg. In the 1950s, Luke Jackson (Newman) is sent to a Deep South chain gang after smashing up some parking metres. The prison camp staff and convict boss Dragline (George Kennedy) try to break the new inmate's spirit but Luke refuses to be broken. The cast also includes Strother Martin, J.D. Cannon and Dennis Hopper.
