Documentary centred on Sir Ernest Shackleton's attempt to cross Antarctica between 1914 and 1916. Having already served under Captain Scott in 1902 and set the record for the furthest distance travelled south in 1908, Shackleton set out just as Britain declared war on Germany, planning to cross Antarctica via the South Pole. However, his mission proved to be an ill-fated expedition as the Endurance became trapped.
