Contrary to J. Mackenzie's review Alex Mabon was born in Inverness in May 1939 in the heart of the Ferry district - South Drive - and moved to the Dalneigh area of the town at the age of eleven. He attended the Merkinch Primary School and The Technical High School (where he is listed as a famous former pupil) before joining the RAF. Some of the characters and places in "The Lads from the Ferry" are a figment of the author's imagination - the word fiction on the book spine should have been sufficient clue for any reader - although esentially the events in the book actually happened. The book was well received in Inverness and the Highlands generally as a true reflection of life in Inverness in the 1940s and 50s and entered the Scottish best seller list. The author has appeared on TV and at the Inverness Book Festival to discuss his works. An Inverness Courier review stated "A wonderful romp". Grampian Televison - "It is not surprising that this book is rapidly climbing the charts." The author visited Inverness in 2006 as guest of honour at his old high school and has been profiled in The Inverness Courier. He is now domiciled in Kent. His most recent books (a murder mystery trilogy) involve an Inverness based detective agency. Alert readers will note that each one is a work of fiction. Note from the author - I am more than happy for any reader to pass comment on any of my books - purchasing the book gives them a right to do so. I take exception however when my personal integrity is questioned. ps Don't be fooled by the 5 star rating. I put it there to catch your eye and to balance out Mr Mackenzie's 1 star rating. I suspect the correct rating would be 2 or 3 but that is up to the reader to decide. As the old saying goes, "You can please all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time but..." - I am sure you all know how the saying goes.
