Kirk Douglas stars as the eponymous slave and gladiator in this historical drama directed by Stanley Kubrik. Uncooperative slave Spartacus is sold to a gladiatorial school where he meets and falls in love with fellow slave Varinia (Jean Simmons). As the Roman senator Crassus (Laurence Olivier) and his opponent Gracchus (Charles Laughton) vie for power, Spartacus leads a slave revolt. He and his followers defeat every army sent against them but Crassus is determined that he will secure victory for Rome in the end... The cast also includes Tony Curtis, John Gavin and Peter Ustinov.
